Mr. Ian Daymond Director of Legal and Social Sector

Ian Daymond has formed his own independent Law Practice called Daymond Lawyers Pty Ltd ACN 115 008 190 specialising in Mining & Resources, together with his consulting firm Daymond & Associates Pty Ltd ACN 003 751 059. Daymond Lawyers and Daymond & Associates provide specialist and cost-effective legal and consulting services in the mining and exploration area, whilst Mr Daymond serves on a number of mining company boards and maintains referral and consulting relationships with other law firms and professional advisers in Sydney, elsewhere in Australia and overseas which can be utilised as appropriate for the size and nature of the particular matter.  

 

He collaborates with other mining lawyers in transactions management for large corporations (see below). Mr Daymond has clients with gold and base metal prospects in Australia, South East Asia, South America and Africa. Using his extensive networks, he has been able to introduce many companies to resource assets of interest and vice versa. Mr Daymond acts for many mining and mineral exploration companies aiming to raise capital and to list on the ASX or on the London Stock Exchange. He is a director of International Base Metals Ltd, an unlisted base metals mining company with interests in QLD, NSW and South Australia, which in 2004 vended substantial oxide copper interests into a listed ASX company, now called CopperCo Ltd (CUO). He was formerly Chairman of ElDore Mining Corporation Ltd (EDM) which raised $4 million and listed on ASX in October 2005. He is also a Non-Executive Chairman of ActivEX Ltd (AIV) and Copper Range Ltd (CRJ). Mr Daymond is honoured to have been appointed the Honorary Consul in NSW for the Republic of Botswana, effective in May 2007. He will assist the Botswanan High Commission in Canberra (and in particular the High Commissioner His Excellency Mr Molosiwa Selepeng) with the work of the High Commission in Sydney and elsewhere in NSW and he looks forward to serving constructively in this quasi-diplomatic role. Background: Mr Daymond completed his Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws at the University of Sydney in 1973. He is a Member of the Law Society of New South Wales, a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales (1974), as well as Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria (1981). He stepped down in August 2005 as National Chairman of the Australia-Southern Africa Business Council after serving more than 3 years in that role and more than 10 years as a member of the business council. He has been very active in other associations relating to mining and mining law, including AMPLA Ltd and sits on the Resources, Energy and Environmental Law Committee of the Law Council of Australia. Before setting up his own legal practice, Mr Daymond was a partner and then consultant at Horton Rhodes, solicitors in Sydney, and partner at Resources Law International in Sydney.
